NON-DESTRUCTIVE PROCESS
Broken taps, drills, and similar tools have a solid center, 
which allows the EDM-2000H to drill out the central 
portion. The EDM uses spark erosion to erode the center of 
the broken tool without applying a large amount of force.
Eroding just the center of the broken tool ensures the 
workpiece stays untouched. As a result, the original 
threaded hole can be salvaged, allowing a new tap to chase 
the threads. This process is useful in saving expensive 
workpieces, and reduces damage to the original workpiece 
compared to other extraction processes, such as drilling 
and grinding. 
The Haas EDM-2000H is a high-powered electrical discharge 
machine (EDM) designed for the removal of broken taps, drills, 
reamers, screws, plug gauges, and other metallic obstructions, 
without damaging the workpiece. Compact and portable – ideal for 
moving between workstations or job sites.
