hy hello there Chicks! 
                          Wecome to the first edition of
                          CHICK Magazine.
We’re so glad someone (us) forced you to 
take a copy of our magazine and then some­
one (us) sat and stared at you until you read 
it! You might be wondering, based on the 
ambiguous name, what CHICK is all about.
We have a fascination with the “girly mag­
azine.” Before the dawn of social media, 
print magazines were a major influencer of 
fashion, trends, and social codes for young 
women. Unlike “fashion-tok” or celebrity 
news accounts, publications from the golden 
age of teen media (50s-90s)  were expressly 
artistic. A magazine is a tangible experience, 
a capture of young life put to the page in a 
colorful, beautiful display. CHICK is part fash­
ion magazine, part journalistic publication, 
part Haverford yearbook, part art collective, 
and part time capsule.
We both separately dreamed of starting a 
magazine at Haverford, and CHICK is the 
amalgamation of everything we both love—
Squire’s journalistic background and love 
of culture writing, Norah’s creative eye and 
artistic experience, and both of our tendency 
W
to take way too long picking out outfits.
Inspired by people-centered (and non-prob­
lematic) student and professional publica­
tions like Rookie Yearbook, CHICK is a place 
for fun, safety, acceptance, community and 
cute clothes! It is made with love by Norah 
and Squire and everyone else who contrib­
uted to this issue.
Any student in the bi-co is welcome to 
participate as writers, photographers, mod­
els, and columnists. The goal of CHICK is to 
capture the spirit and authenticity of youth, 
femininity, and community in a wholesome, 
authentic and fun-to-flip-through form.
This fall/winter issue of CHICK contains an 
array of media—we have opinion pieces by 
brilliant writers, student art submissions, 
fun little fashion ditties (check out Squire’s 
collection of purses on the next page), and 
a piece on Haverford hookup culture. Flip 
through on the Blue Bus for some style 
inspo, or sit and read it cover to cover on the 
Lutnick couches to procrastinate your work; 
it’s up to you. Happy flipping!
